Cornell Law receives grant to prevent evictions and displacement of low-income tenants in Ithaca, NY

ITHACA.COM — A public-private collaboration has won a $1 million dollar grant to prevent displacement of low-income tenants in Ithaca. Partners include the City of Ithaca, Cornell Law School, Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County, Legal Assistance of Western New York, Inc. and the National Lawyers Guild student chapter at Cornell Law School.

Emory Law renames Inn of Court in honor of Judge Clarence Cooper

EMORY LAW — The membership of Emory’s American Inn of Court has voted to rename itself as The Judge Clarence Cooper American Inn of Court, after a 1967 Emory Law graduate and history maker within the judiciary. The change comes after the Inn decided to retire its former name and appoint a committee to study possible new names.

University of Florida Law receives gift to fund research and solutions for public disinformation

THE GAINESVILLE SUN — The University of Florida announced Monday that alumni Linda and Ken McGurn have pledged $2 million to create the McGurn Fellowship Program for Media Integrity and the Fight Against Disinformation. The gift will support a joint program.

Georgia State University Law adds legislation and regulation class to first-year curriculum

GEORGIA STATE UNIVERSITY — Changes are coming to the first-year curriculum at Georgia State College of Law next year, with the addition of a required Legislation & Regulation class. Georgia State joined roughly 40 other law schools that require the first-year class. Other changes are being implemented as well.

Harvard Law professor Richard H. Fallon honored by AALS Section on Federal Courts

HARVARD LAW TODAY — Harvard Law Professor Richard H. Fallon, an award-winning scholar and teacher, has been recognized by the Association of American Law Schools with the 2021 Daniel J. Meltzer Award. The AALS Section on Federal Courts established the award in 2017 to honor the life and work of the late Daniel J. Meltzer.

Indiana University Maurer Law professor Dawn Johnsen joins US Department of Justice as senior counselor

U.S. NEWS — Dawn Johnsen, an Indiana University law professor, has joined the U.S. Department of Justice under President Joe Biden’s new administration. Johnsen was sworn in Wednesday as a senior counselor in the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel, The Herald-Times reported.
