President Biden selects law school deans and professors for Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court

THE WHITE HOUSE — President Biden will today issue an executive order forming the Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States, comprised of a bipartisan group of experts on the Court and the Court reform debate. Applications for law and graduate programs up compared to prior year

Despite the unique nature of 2020’s economic downturn, it appears that this year is no exception. Applications are up in professional programs such as business and law, but also in some humanities programs.

UC Irvine Law appoints Bryant Garth as interim dean

UC IRVINE SCHOOL OF LAW — UCI Interim Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Hal S. Stern has appointed Bryant Garth as Interim Dean of the University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law). Garth, who returns to UCI Law after retiring in June 2019, will assume the deanship on June 2, 2021.

US Department of Education terminates Florida Coastal Law’s federal student loan eligibility

Notre Dame Law closes deposit form amid rush of acceptances from admitted students

INSIDE HIGHER ED — It was a banner year for law school applications. The number of applicants this year was up about 21 percent compared to last year, according to the Law School Admissions Council. Total applications were up 32 percent. An increase that big can be tricky for an admissions department.

Georgia Supreme Court announces online only bar exam for July 2021

ALBANYHERLD.COM — The Supreme Court of Georgia has announced that the Georgia Bar Exam scheduled for this summer will be given remotely due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It will be the third Georgia bar exam administered remotely during the past year. More than 1,000 applicants are expected to take the test.
