The Association of American Law Schools (AALS) is a 501(c)(3) higher education association representing 174 American law schools. AALS seeks a Washington, DC-area undergraduate or graduate student to work approximately 20–25 hours per week to support the association’s communications and outreach efforts. The position is remote, with the possibility to work some days in-person at the AALS Dupont Circle offices.

Job Title: Student Assistant for Meetings Projects
Reports to: Associate Director of Meetings

POSITION SUMMARY: The Student Assistant provides support to staff on a variety of projects including assisting in meeting coordination tasks, and the creation of various digital publications, online forms, and maintaining the AALS website.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Duties that occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job; position is expanded to include duties as assigned)  

  • Support staff on a variety of projects related to events including call for proposals, inputs for sessions, speakers, and descriptions into our database, among other tasks.  
  • Support the creation of various events digital publications, online forms, and maintaining the AALS event websites. 
  • Assists all staff with administrative projects as needed, including data entry. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS REQUIRED: (Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately)  

  • A minimum of a high school education, or equivalent experience. 
  • Must be current college student either undergrad student in their junior or senior year or graduate student pursuing degree in communications, event planning, social studies or related field.   
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to comfortably and pleasantly deal with a variety of people and provide strong customer service. 
  • Detail oriented, well-organized, and able to handle multiple projects at any given time; must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work independently on projects assigned.  
  • Knowledge of general office tasks, and ability to utilize telephone system. 
  • Problem-solving capability necessary to accomplish the duties and tasks of the position. 
  • Team-oriented attitude and ability to contribute to design- and functionality-related decisions.  
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Office Suite.  
  • Related work experience not required but preferred: website management, demonstrated knowledge and use of computer applications, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Dreamweaver, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint). 

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must reside in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC, and live within a commutable distance from the AALS headquarters.
