UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA SCHOOL OF LAW — When a Charlottesville-area woman bought a used car that needed substantial repairs she could not afford, she soon found herself in financial and legal distress. After turning to the Legal Aid Justice Center and two University of Virginia School of Law students, she saved about $10,000 in court.

More than 150 law firms volunteer for election protection efforts

ABA JOURNAL — More than 150 law firms and about 23,000 volunteers are participating this year in an election protection program run by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. The number of volunteers is about five times the number in 2016. Volunteers will answer questions about polling places, mail-in ballots and other election issues.

Louisiana State University Law receives grant to establish Wrongful Conviction Clinic

WBRZ 2 ABC — LSU Law, in partnership with the Innocence Project New Orleans (IPNO), has received a nearly $500,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to review select cases of incarcerated people who have claims of innocence. The two-year grant establishes the Wrongful Conviction Clinic at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.
