Located on a beautiful college campus in Richmond, Virginia, the University of Richmond School of Law is a private school that combines a rigorous academic program with an extensive selection of clinical placements and experiential learning opportunities. The faculty pride themselves on their close mentoring relationships with students and modeling inclusion, collegiality, and professionalism. The faculty is small and productive, producing impactful scholarship that expands the understanding of law and improves legal systems.

The Richmond Law & Business Forum is a co-curricular program that helps students learn about the practice of business law and connect with business lawyers. Directed by Professor Jessica Erickson and supported by a student advisory board, it holds approximately 25 events each academic year, introducing students to different practice areas related to business law, helping students understand key business concepts, and fostering discussions about important business law topics.

The program’s signature events are its Business Law over Dinner or Lunch series, where 2–3 lawyers in a specific practice area meet with 6–10 students interested in this area. These events allow for an informal conversation about business law and the practice of law more generally. Lunches and dinners have focused on general transactional law, securities & finance law, intellectual property law, real estate law, business litigation, non-profit organizations, international business law, and many other areas.

“Our goal at Richmond Law is to prepare students to flourish in all aspects of their professional lives,” said Wendy Perdue, Dean and Past President of AALS. “That means equipping our students with the core knowledge that every lawyer needs, while instilling an innovative mindset to help each individual achieve their highest potential. In working toward that goal, we’ve accomplished something pretty remarkable at Richmond Law. We’ve built a community of lawyers who are fierce advocates for their clients; who give back to their communities; who advance the cause of justice; who think critically; and who act ethically to serve their profession. The world needs great lawyers — and Richmond Law lawyers have met that need in spades for over 150 years.”
