Sajid Shahriar ’16 (pictured above) has been awarded a prestigious Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF). Shahriar has secured a placement working for the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity in Boston this fall.

“I am thrilled to begin my career in federal government as a PMF,” Shahriar said. “I could not have done it without the encouragement of my mentors, Professors Joan Blum and Michael Cassidy, who recognized my passion for civil rights and government and pointed me towards the PMF program. I also have to thank our great BC Law PMF alumni like Jillian Lenson and Lauren Hurst, among others, for their counsel and assistance throughout the process—truly an alumni network like no other.”

During his time at BC Law, Shahriar held leadership positions in the Law Student Association, South Asian Law Student Association, BC Law Democrats, American Constitution Society, Board of Student Advisors, and co-chaired the Mock Trial competition. He represented clients as a certified student attorney in the Civil Litigation Clinic, volunteered at the Legal Advocacy and Resource Center in Boston and spent a semester abroad studying at the Hautes Ètudes Appliquèes du Droit (HEAD) in Paris, France where he interned in the M&A Department of Veolia Environnement.  Shahriar served as a Clough Center for Constitutional Democracy Academic Law Fellow and received the John. D. O’Reilly Jr. Award for Contribution to the Law School Community at graduation.

The Presidential Management Fellowship is a leadership development program for advanced degree candidates aimed at creating the next cadre of government leaders. BC Law has produced eight Presidential Management Fellows since 2011.
