UGA Law School

The University of Georgia's School of Law is hosting the first annual Wilbanks Child Endangerment and Sexual Exploitation Clinic (CEASE) Conference on Jan. 28.

Atlanta is home to many opportunities for job-seekers after they graduate from the University of Georgia. And it will soon be home to students in the UGA Georgia School of Law too.

The law school announced Monday that second- and third-year students will be able to get real life experience while working in different government, non-profit and corporate positions through the Atlanta Semester in Practice offered through the law school.

The program will begin spring semester of 2016.

"Students will have the chance to engage in a wide range of legal work, to develop long-term relationships in the Atlanta legal community and to understand the daily life of lawyers." said Alexander Scherr, director of civil clinics and associate professor.

Students can take up to 16 hours of upper-level electives as well as attend a clinical seminar while also working in different externships.

“The program provides access to an impressive array of civil practice settings and opens up new opportunities for professional networking,” said Hillel Levin, Georgia Law in Atlanta director and associate professor in a press release.

Georgia Law Dean Peter B. “Bo” Rutledge said in a press release this was a new chapter in the law school's history that will bring connections to alumni and students in the Atlanta-area.

"I look forward to teaching students who are working full-time in Atlanta," Scherr said. "Experience shows that full-time clinics offer unique opportunities for students to learn and grow as lawyers."
