Dean Robert Post ’77 has announced the appointment of Marisol Orihuela ’08 to the Yale Law School faculty. She will join as a clinical associate professor of law, effective July 1, 2017.

Orihuela specializes in criminal law and immigration law, having supervised both the Worker and Immigrant Rights Advocacy Clinic and the Criminal Justice Clinic at Yale Law School. Her legal research focuses on the intersection of criminal, immigration, and mental health law.

“The Law School is thrilled to have Marisol join our faculty,” said Dean Robert C. Post ’77. “It is a terrific way to end the academic year. Marisol not only brings enormous professional capacity to our clinical program, but an inimitable and much beloved human touch. Students love working with her.”

Prior to her appointment to the faculty, Orihuela was a visiting clinical associate professor of law and presidential visiting professor at Yale Law School.

She was most recently a Deputy Federal Public Defender at the Office of the Federal Public Defender in Los Angeles where she litigated federal felony trials, including drug trafficking, bank robbery, health care and benefits fraud, and immigration crimes. She also served as appointed counsel for individuals in removal proceedings found not competent to represent themselves.

Orihuela has served as a Liman Fellow and staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California. She also clerked for the Honorable Rosemary Barkett of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and the Honorable Consuelo B. Marshall of the Central District of California.
