Saturday afternoon, the final round of the 2018 National Energy and Sustainability Moot Court Competition took place at the WVU College of Law.

This is the eighth year for the competition which brought 21 teams of law students from across the country, as far away as Utah and Texas.

The arguments at this weekend’s competition were centered around the Public Trust Doctrine and Greenhouse gas admissions.

This competition helps students to improve their oral advocacy skills.

Students were able to argue their cases in front of five sitting federal court judges.

“It gives them a great deal of familiarity with energy and environmental issues. Every year we try to design a problem that is built around some of the pressing issues in the environmental and energy arena.” James Van Nostrand, Director of the Center for Energy and Sustainable Development, and Professor of Law.

Students from the College of William and Mary were the winners of the competition.
