King Hall Faculty Play Prominent Roles in AALS Annual Meeting
A large contingent of UC Davis School of Law faculty attended the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) 2017 Annual Meeting held January 3-7 in San Francisco, presenting research, participating in panel discussions, and acting in leadership roles in various AALS sections. In conjunction with the annual meeting, the School of Law also hosted a reception for faculty, alumni and friends, and co-hosted an event honoring the work of Professor Lesley McAllister.
Dean Kevin R. Johnson, Senior Associate Dean Madhavi Sunder, and Professors Alan Brownstein, Anupam Chander, Chris Elmendorf, Angela P. Harris, David Horton, Lisa Ikemoto, Irene Oritseweyinmi Joe, Courtney Joslin, Lisa Pruitt, Leticia Saucedo, Darien Shanske, and Aaron Tang gave presentations at the AALS event. Karen Charney, King Hall's Executive Director of Development, also spoke during a plenary session. Additional faculty in attendance included Professors Thomas W. Joo, Peter Lee, Evelyn Lewis, Brian Soucek, and Carter "Cappy" White.
King Hall faculty serving in leadership roles for AALS include Professor Rose Cuison Villazor, Chair for the Section on Immigration Law, Professor Afra Asharipour, Executive Committee Member for the Section on Transactional Law & Skills and for the Section on Law and South Asian Studies, Professor Jasmine Harris, Executive Committee Member for the Section on Evidence and Chair-elect of the Section on Law and Mental Disability, and Professor Carlton Larson, Executive Committee Member for the Section on Legal History.
King Hall hosted an AALS Alumni and Friends Reception on January 5, and co- hosted with the University of San Diego School of Law “A Toast to Lesley McAllister” on January 6. Professor McAllister is fighting a rare form of lung cancer. To honor her and acknowledge her contribution to environmental law scholarship, the Center for Progressive Reform convened a forum of influential scholars who contributed to, are inspired by, and benefit from her work.
