The Faculty Appointments Register (FAR) is an online database of applications submitted by individuals interested in becoming a law teacher. This year we are launching the new AALS Interfolio Hiring Platform.
Candidates fill out forms that standardize information about education, teaching and employment experience, publications, bar passage, scholarly focus, and other relevant qualifications into an easily-searchable database for schools to use to identify promising candidates. We strongly suggest you review these resource and learn how to use the new platform, to take advantage of its features:
The password to enter the Interfolio Courses is “AALS”.
Once your school completes the submission form and pays the access fee, your recruitment team may access the FAR at any time starting in mid-June. Because the FAR is open to applicants on a rolling deadline from June through September, AALS releases the submitted candidate information to schools in three timed batches (called “distributions”) throughout the hiring season; this ensures that new applications submitted after the initial deadline are easy to identify.
Frequently Asked Questions
With the move to Interfolio, Law School Appointment Committees will be able to find candidates more easily through a more robust search process. This new platform improves the online review process, allowing interviewers to review and evaluate all candidates’ materials in a document reader, comment on, and rank applicants. Restrictions on Use of the Faculty Appointments Register
AALS makes the FAR available on the express condition that the information contained in it is used by schools solely for the purpose of evaluating candidates for possible faculty recruitment and not for any other purpose. FAR information or data should not be used for research, converted into any database or shared with any person not directly involved in the school’s faculty recruitment process.
