Marriott Wardman Park Hotel
2660 Woodley Road NW
AALS facilitates the annual Faculty Recruitment Conference (FRC) each fall to make the screening interview process easier and more centralized for schools and applicants alike. Law school hiring teams meet and conduct in-person interviews with candidates over three days in Washington, DC.
Schools typically contact candidates they are interested in before the conference to prearrange interviews to take place onsite. Interviews are usually scheduled every 30 minutes; thus, with time to navigate the hotel, the actual interview length is usually about 20-25 minutes. However, AALS does not specify what hours to interview or how long the interviews should last.
If you plan to attend the FRC, please RSVP via the email sent to you in the fall. There is no additional charge to attend the conference; registration is included in your FAR fee.
The link to reserve a room at the Marriott Wardman Park will be posted in the summer. The room rate is $279 (plus taxes) for single and double occupancy. If you need to cancel your reservation, you must do so by 6 pm on the scheduled date of arrival to avoid being charged for one night. The cut-off date for reservations is September 23, 2020.
We strongly encourage all candidates to review the videos and materials about screening interviews on Becoming a Law Teacher well in advance of the conference.
If you do not have prearranged interviews with attending law schools, review the advice provided on Becoming a Law Teacher as to whether it is worthwhile to attend the FRC.
Programming for Candidates
In addition to interviews, the Faculty Recruitment Conference offers candidates and law school recruitment teams opportunities to socialize and network. See the conference schedule for hours and details about these events:
FRC begins on Thursday evening with a roundtable workshop during which all interested candidates have both structured and unstructured time to mingle with and solicit advice from experienced faculty members.
This year’s Workshop will be held Thursday, October 15, from 3:30 – 5:15 pm.
Hospitality rooms sponsored by the AALS Sections on Minority Groups and Women in Legal Education are available throughout the conference for candidates to chat with representatives from these Sections. Each Section will host a question and answer session in their hospitality room during the conference.
Open receptions are held throughout the conference. They are sponsored by various AALS Sections including the Section on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues and the Section on Legal Writing, Reasoning, and Research; plus a reception for religiously affiliated law schools.
All receptions and lounges listed are open to all candidates.
The Candidates Lounge is a comfortable place to relax, offering complimentary beverages.

Getting Around the Hotel/Helpful Hints
The Marriott Wardman Park can be a confusing hotel to navigate. We recommend that you spend some time familiarizing yourself with the layout before your interviews begin, and wear comfortable shoes. When locating a specific room, use this key to understand the room number:

- The second digit indicates the part of the hotel: 0 or 1 is the Center Tower, 3 is the Wardman Tower
- The last two digits indicate the room number on the floor.
- Exception: Rooms 101-180 are on the First Floor (Mezzanine Level) of Center
The hotel provides complimentary wireless internet in AALS interviewing rooms and guest rooms, the hotel lobby, and public areas.
