On September 19, 2019, Santa Clara Law had the privilege of hosting six deans and professors from Uzbekistan. The deans and professors came from three legal education institutions: Prof. and Director Evgeniy Kolenko, Prof. Zamirat Borsieva, and Prof. Ulugbek Abdurakhmanov from the Procurator General’s Office Academy; Deputy Rector Gulnoza Ismailova and Law Dean Shukhrat Urunbaev from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy; and Prof. Khasan Oshilov from Tashkent State University of Law. They were particularly interested in discussing Santa Clara Law’s course design, curriculum, clinic courses, and pro bono services and for that purpose, met with Deans Anna Han and Michael Flynn, Prof. Donald Polden, and Clinical Professors Laura Norris, Linda Starr, and Evangeline Abriel. The Uzbek faculty members were especially impressed by the work done in Santa Clara Law’s clinics, particularly the Entrepreneur’s Law Clinic and the Northern California Innocence Project. The visit provided everyone with a fascinating comparison of educational goals and processes, and both visitors and Santa Clara Law faculty came away with fresh viewpoints and a hope for future collaboration.
