Employment in the legal sector dropped by 1,100 jobs in January even as the country added 200,000 jobs.

The number of legal jobs was 1,135,500, compared to 1,136,600 in December, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The American Lawyer reports on seasonally adjusted numbers.

Despite the drop, there are 3,000 more jobs in the legal sector than in January 2017.

The American Lawyer points out that the total number of legal sector jobs “has generally remained within the same range—between about 1.12 million and 1.13 million people—for several years running—roughly 50,000 jobs shy of a pre-recession high of nearly 1.18 million jobs in 2007.”
