IU McKinney Partnership Creates Trine University Law Scholar
05/21/2018
The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law has entered into an agreement with Trine University to create the Trine University Law Scholar. Trine University will nominate one student or alumnus for consideration for the program each year. The first student will begin their legal studies at IU McKinney in the Fall 2019 semester.
“I’m so pleased about our new agreement with Trine University," said IU McKinney Dean Andrew R. Klein. "I have no doubt that the students who attend Trine and IU McKinney through this partnership will make both schools very proud.”
“This agreement is a great benefit to Trine University students who are thinking about law school," said Trine University Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Engagement John C. Milliken. "It shortens the time and cost required to earn a law degree by a full year. As more than 57 percent of our main campus undergraduates are Indiana residents, this agreement with McKinney Law School is especially significant to us, and the new Trine Law Scholars program at McKinney Law makes this an even more attractive option for our students,” said John Milliken, J.D., professor in Trine University’s Department of Criminal Justice, Psychology and Social Services. “Indianapolis is the hub of the state’s legal and government communities and offers unparalleled opportunities to McKinney Law students. We are excited to be able to partner with McKinney Law to make those opportunities available to Trine students.”
The nomination deadline is March 15 of the academic year for which the student is applying. Students must have completed an application to IU McKinney by March 1 of the year in which the student is applying to law school. The application fee will be waived. A minimum of a half-tuition scholarship will be awarded, and students are guaranteed an experiential learning opportunity, after completion of 32 credit hours, should the student wish to secure an experience such as an externship.
This brings the total number of colleges and universities the law school has created partnership agreements with to 12. The others are Indiana University's five regional campuses, Marian University, Wabash College, Bradley University, Franklin College, the University of Southern Indiana, DePauw University, Albion College, Anderson University, Butler University, and the University of Indianapolis.
