The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington, D.C., Area (APABA-DC) awarded Professor Cynthia Lee, Charles Kennedy Poe Research Professor of Law, the 2017 Community Appreciation Award at their APABA-DC Gala held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts on September 29, 2017.
The Community Appreciation Award recognizes an individual or organization in the greater Washington area such as community leaders, judges, or leaders of other bar associations who may not be an APABA-DC member but has demonstrated strong support for APABA-DC and its members. For her commitment and dedication to law students and the APA community, APABA-DC recognized Professor Lee's contributions to APABA-DC membership and their affiliate, the Asian Pacific American Bar Association Educational Fund (AEF).
"APABA-DC is a great organization. Through APABA-DC's Educational Foundation, AEF, APABA-DC helps APA law students become successful attorneys. APABA-DC also helps APA attorneys, judges, and law professor connect with and learn from each other," Professor Lee said.
When Professor Lee first moved to Washington, D.C., in 2001, Esther Lim, President-Elect of the D.C. Bar, reached out to Professor Lee and encouraged her to serve on the board of APABA-DC. She served as co-Chair of APABA-DC's Women's Forum from 2002-2003. "That was such a rewarding experience. Since then, as a member of APABA-DC, I have enjoyed attending APABA-DC's networking, educational, and other events," Professor Lee said. "Receiving APABA-DC's 2017 Community Achievement Award means so much to me. I thank you, APABA-DC."
