Position Summary

The Section Student Assistant provides support to the Associate Director of Section Services and works with 107 of AALS’s Sections. The student works closely with staff on a variety of projects including virtual event coordination, updating and maintaining the AALS Sections webpages, adding individuals to Sections, distributing reports, and assisting with ongoing Sections projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

*Duties that occupy a major portion of time and importance in the job; position is expanded to include duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for adding new members to Sections and processing Clinical Section memberships; includes maintaining, updating, and administering records in NetFORUM and the Directory of Law Teachers.
  • Distributes membership reports to Section leadership and maintains the AALS Membership Detail.
  • Supports Associate Director of Section Services with virtual events by creating registration links, coordinating with speakers and moderators, collecting necessary biographical and description information, creating Webinar and Section Social webpages, emailing reminders to Sections, and pulling registration and attendee reports.
  • Responsible for editing and uploading Webinar Replays on YouTube.
  • Supports Associate Director of Section Services on a variety of projects related to in-person events including Section Programs, Networking sessions, and Section Award Ceremonies at Annual Meeting, and Q&A Sessions at New Law Teachers, among other tasks.
  • Occasionally assists all staff with administrative projects as needed.
  • Partakes in trainings to keep the Associate Director of Section Services up to date on new technology, and updates in software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required

*Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately.

  • A minimum of a high school education, or equivalent experience.
  • Must be current college student either undergrad student in their junior or senior year or graduate student pursuing degree in communications, event planning, social studies or related field.
  • Outstanding customer service skills; excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, well-organized, and able to handle multiple projects at any given time; must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work independently on projects assigned.
  • Knowledge of general office tasks, and ability to utilize telephone system.
  • Problem-solving capability necessary to accomplish the duties and tasks of the position.
  • Team-oriented attitude and ability to contribute to design and functionality-related decisions.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
  • Related work experience not required but preferred: website management, demonstrated knowledge and use of computer applications, including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, DreamWeaver, PhotoShop), and Canva.
