Brooklyn legal pipeline helping create more diversity in law schools
Students from the Brooklyn Pipeline Initiative met this week at the Brooklyn Bar Association where they were paired with attorney mentors, who helped them develop a resume and cover letter.
The Pipeline Initiative is co-sponsored by the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Defense Association of New York and the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association. Organized by Claire Rush, the program is designed to provide students from diverse backgrounds, who live or attend college in Brooklyn, with instruction on how to apply to and pay for law school.
“Law schools and the legal profession has made a lot of strides over the years, but they could certainly do better,” Rush said. “A lot of times the biggest hurdle to overcome is that the students lack a family member, or close friend who have gone through this process before and having someone there to help them makes a big difference.”
