Widener University School of Law in Harrisburg became Widener University Commonwealth Law School Wednesday, officially separating its Delaware and Pennsylvania campuses.

The separation was announced in March, with the Harrisburg school focusing on government and environmental law, while the Wilmington campus would focus on business and corporate law. The American Bar Association approved the university plan to separate the campuses into two law schools earlier this year.

Christian A. Johnson becomes the first dean of the new school.

Widener celebrated its 25th anniversary in Harrisburg earlier this year.

Pennsylvania State University is also in the midst of separating its law school in State College and the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle.
