Roger Williams University School of Law

The Pro Bono Collaborative (PBC) at Roger Williams University School of Law facilitates the provision of pro bono legal services through a three-way partnership among law firms, law students, and community-based organizations that serve low-income people.  By developing pro bono projects through partnerships with community based organizations, the Pro Bono Collaborative serves as a unique vehicle for the identification of systemic — often preventable — unmet legal need at the community level.  In addition to responding to the needs of vulnerable people in underserved communities, the PBC gives law students the benefits of a unique mentoring relationship established through the law firm/law school partnership. The Legal Services Corporation has described the PBC as “a great example of how much can be accomplished through collaboration” and Deborah Rhode, former president of the AALS, has encouraged other law schools to replicate the program.
