Subject: Letter from Higher Education Leaders Regarding Affirmative Action

 

Enclosed is the letter on affirmative action I referred to in my remarks at the Deans' Workshop last week. This letter is jointly signed by Stan Ikenberry, President of the American Council on Education, and Tom Ingram, President of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. Attached to the letter is a statement on the importance of diversity of higher education endorsed by the Association of American Law Schools and many other higher education groups.

If members of your central administration or trustees express any concerns about affirmative action I urge you to share these materials with them, and have them contact the leadership of any of the organizations endorsing the letter.
