SUBJECT: Pro Bono Project
As you may know, the AALS has received funding from the Open Society Institute for a “Pro Bono Project”. The purpose of this project is to develop materials that can assist schools in developing effective pro bono projects for their students. That assistance will consist of the development of materials and individual consultation with faculty and deans about how to establish an effective and meaningful pro bono program.
I am pleased to announce that we have hired Cynthia Adcock from Duke University to be the Pro Bono Project Director. Cindy will begin July 1 and will be available for telephone and personal consultation with you or your faculty after that date. The grant includes travel funding to permit on campus visits. You should of course inquire as soon as possible so that Cindy will be able to schedule her activities as far in advance as possible.
Cindy will be assisted by Alison Keegan, who will start work June 14. You may contact Cindy or Alison for information about the program and for scheduling assistance.
We are in the process of appointing an Advisory Commission that will consist of deans, law faculty, pro bono program administrators, and representatives of other organizations involved in public interest law and pro bono work. We welcome your request for assistance and any comments you may have regarding this program.
