MEMORANDUM 98-4

January 26, 1998

To: Deans of Member and Fee-Paid Schools
From: Bari R. Burke
Subject: "Dear Colleague" Letter from the United States Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education, regarding the Effect of the Solomon-Pombo Amendment on the Title IV Student Financial Assistance Programs

Attached is a "Dear Colleague" letter sent from the U.S. Department of Education to financial aid officers at colleges and universities about the effect of the Solomon-Pombo Amendment on the Federal Perkins Loan and Work-Study Programs. Because the Department of Education does not customarily send copies of Dear Colleague letters to Deans of law schools, we are sending you a copy of the letter received by the Association’s office.

The letter lists the names of two people, one in the Department of Defense and one in the Department of Education, to contact if you have questions.

Attachment: [Not included on website. Please contact the AALS if you would like a copy of the "Dear Colleague" letter mailed or faxed to you.]
