MEMORANDUM 05-20
| TO: | Deans of Member Schools and Members of the House of Representatives |
| FROM: | Jane M. La Barbera |
| SUBJECT: | Executive Committee Regulation 1.1(j) |
At its May 2005 meeting, the AALS Executive Committee accepted the AALS Committee on Sections and Annual Meeting recommendation to revise the language of AALS Executive Committee Regulation 1.1 (j) to permit AALS Section Chairs to serve up to two consecutive years within a seven-year period. The Committee believes that sections could be strengthened if they had the same leadership for more than one year.
New language:
No person may serve as section chair of the same section for more than two consecutive years during any seven-year period. No person may serve as section chair of more than one section at the same time.Old language:
No person may serve as section chair of the same section for more than one year during any seven-year period, unless that person serves as chair during a year when the section elects to hold no program at the Annual Meeting, and to defer its program until the following year. In this case only, the same person may serve as chair during the two consecutive years when these events occur.
No person may serve as section chair of more than one section at the same time.
In accordance with Bylaw 5-4, unless objection is received from at least ten member schools within 60 days of mailing a copy of these regulations, Executive Committee Regulation 1.1(j), as amended, will continue in effect.
