Subject: Amendment to AALS Executive Committee Regulation 12.3 (a)

 

At its May meeting, the Executive Committee revised Executive Committee Regulation 12.3(a). The revision is to change the language concerning eligibility of faculty and professional staff at law schools outside the United States that are AALS International Affiliate subscribers to serve as officers for the AALS Sections on International Legal Exchange and North American Cooperation. As the name of the subscription changed from "fee-paid" to "International Affiliate" the terminology is also amended.

12.3  Section Membership

(a)Regular Membership. All faculty and professional staff of member law schools are eligible for regular membership in a Section. In addition, faculty members and professional staff from law schools that subscribe as AALS International Affiliates from Mexican and Canadian law schools are eligible for regular membership in the AALS Section on North American Cooperation. Faculty members and professional staff from any law school that subscribes as an AALS International Affiliate are eligible for regular membership in the AALS Section on International Legal Exchange. of fee-paid Mexican law schools, and fee-paid Canadian law schools recognized by a provincial law society, are eligible for regular membership in the Section on North American Cooperation.

If within 60 days of mailing, ten member schools express objection to the regulation, it shall not become effective, but shall be laid before the next Annual Meeting for approval or disapproval. If objection is not so expressed, the regulation shall be a continuingly authoritative indication of Association policy unless modified by action at an Annual Meeting or by subsequent Executive Committee resolution.
