MEMORANDUM 02-46
October 18, 2002
| To: | Deans of Member and Fee-Paid Schools |
| From: | Carl C. Monk |
| Subject: | Military Recruitment and Solomon Amendment |
Thank you for the responses you have sent to our September 16 memorandum requesting information about any recent communications you have had with the Department of Defense regarding military recruitment policies. In response to our memorandum a number of you have asked about how other schools are responding to Department of Defense inquiries. I have enclosed a copy of “An Open Letter to the USC Law School Community” that Dean Matthew Spitzer prepared regarding this issue. His letter describes both the process of negotiation with the Defense Department and speaks strongly of the continued commitment of the law school to nondiscrimination.
Please continue to keep us informed and let us know if there is any assistance you believe the AALS could feasibly provide.
