MEMORANDUM 02-28

August 9, 2002

To: Deans of Member and Fee-Paid Schools
From: Jane M. La Barbera
Subject: User Names and Passwords for AALS Faculty Appointments Register (FAR) Online

For the fourth year the Association of American Law Schools is providing its Faculty Appointments Register (FAR) online. The FAR allows candidates interested in law teaching to input their qualifications and experiences directly into a database via the web. Recruiters are able to access that database via the web from any computer with web access, including home computers, and use search criteria to find candidates to invite to interview. Recruiters are also able to view supplemental resumes provided by candidates. The AALS is still providing law schools with hard copy distributions of the FAR.

Candidates have already begun entering data for the 2002-2003 Faculty Appointments Register for the first distribution of the FAR. Starting August 30, your Recruitment Team may access the online FAR database. In order to access the database, the Recruiter must have a user name and password. Attached to this memorandum is a list of 10 user names with matching passwords. [Not included on website] You should assign a user name and password to your law school Recruiters wanting access to the FAR Online. We consider the FAR to be confidential information and we provide access to only Recruiters to protect the privacy of Candidates, so please handle the user names and passwords with care.

Once again, candidates will have the option of providing a full resume in addition to the FAR one page form. When your online search produces a list of candidates, a special link will appear next to the name of each candidate who has provided a full resume online, allowing you to download and print the full resume.

Should you have any questions about accessing the FAR online, please direct your questions to Paul Flood, AALS Publications Manager at pflood@aals.org.
