You should already have received a copy of my letter of January 24, 2002 to Judge Harry T. Edwards endorsing a law clerk hiring plan proposed by Judge Edwards. You should also have received a letter dated March 11 from Judges Edwards and Becker announcing adoption of the plan. As you know, the AALS has endorsed plans of this type for many years and continues to do so. We believe it is a more fair and equitable manner for hiring law clerks that will benefit both the judiciary and law school graduates. I hope you will make every effort to comply with the plan and advise your faculty to do so as well.
