MEMORANDUM 02-16
March 6, 2002
| To: | Deans of Member and Fee-Paid Schools |
| From: | Veryl Victoria Miles, Deputy Director |
| Subject: | Women Dean’s Data Bank |
During the fall, the Association agreed to assume responsibility for the administration and maintenance of the Women Deans’ Databank, which had been administered by the Georgetown University Law Center. The past response to the databank has been very favorable, supported overwhelmingly by deans across the country, and it has received much praise from search committees that have used it in their searches.
We would like to take this opportunity to update the current list of Women Deans’ Databank Participants by asking you to nominate women who have expressed an interest in acquiring an appointment to a deanship and women that you believe would be good candidates for a deanship. Once we have obtained your nominations we will proceed to obtain the permission of the nominees to allow their names to be placed on a list that will be made available to dean search committees. We will make a solicitation for names to be added to the list annually. An announcement of this new service will be placed on the AALS website. We encourage you to use this important service, whenever a dean search committee is formed, by sending your request for the list to the AALS Deputy Director at vmiles@aals.org
Let me thank you in advance for your participation in this important initiative to enhance the opportunities for women dean candidates.
