MEMORANDUM 02-15

March 6, 2002

To: Deans of Member and Fee-Paid Schools
From: Veryl Victoria Miles, Deputy Director
Subject: Member School Military Recruitment Policies

Within the past six months, our office has received several inquiries from member schools regarding the current practices among law schools regarding military recruitment activities on their campuses. Although we understand that most law schools do permit the military to recruit on campus, there are a few schools that continue to refuse the military access to their recruitment facilities due to military policies regarding gays and lesbians in the armed forces.

Accordingly, we would like to take this opportunity to do a brief survey of the number of law schools that currently refuse to permit military recruiters on their campuses. If you would respond by sending me an email message at vmiles@aals.org , we will be able to make this information available to schools that have expressed interest in the current military recruitment practices among member law schools.
