MEMORANDUM 01-33

October 2, 2001

To: Deans of Member and Fee-Paid Schools
From: Jane M. La Barbera
Subject: Children’s Activity Center at 2002 Annual Meeting

It was requested this year by the AALS Committee on Sections and Annual Meeting that AALS investigate on-site childcare during the 2002 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA. AALS researched companies and has selected ACCENT on Children’s Arrangements, Inc., a New Orleans-based company that provides these services at conventions throughout the country.

During the 2002 AALS Annual Meeting, a Children’s Activity Center will be set up in the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel. AALS will offset some of the costs involved, but parents will also be required to pay fees based on age of the child, number of days the activity center is used, and whether or not half-day or full-day services are required. This service is for children aged 6 months to 12 years. Play materials, toys for all age groups, games, videos, etc. will be provided, and age-oriented activities will be planned for the children. If the program proves to be successful and is well-utilized by attendees, AALS will consider the possibility of providing this service at future Annual Meetings.

Detailed information, including fees, hours, types of activities offered, registration procedures, etc., will be posted shortly on the AALS website at www.aals.org/am2002/ . An announcement of this service will also be included in the Annual Meeting brochure. Please bring this to the attention of your faculty who are parents of young children.
