Enclosed is the winter distribution of the Faculty Appointments Register (FAR). It contains 72 new faculty appointments registration forms, including those forms that were first made available at the Faculty Recruitment Conference in November. Data on all candidates can also be accessed online by visiting www.aals.org/recruit/ and clicking on the "candidate search" link. Please note that this database is accessible to recruiters only if the IP address information form included in Deans Memorandum 99-25, dated July 30, 1999, has been completed and returned to AALS. If that form has not yet been submitted, please do so as soon as possible if you wish to view the data online.

In addition, this distribution of the register contains a list of candidates whose biographical sketches were distributed in the fall and who are still interested in being considered for positions. Address and/or telephone number changes or corrections are included in the list. A few candidates who were listed in fall distributions have submitted new forms with updated information. Their previous forms are no longer accessible in the database. Candidates in this category are identified on the attached pages as well.

Please urge those who handle the FAR to treat the candidate information with confidentiality. Schools may not share FAR candidate information outside the law school. It is also important that schools not contact references listed by candidates who have checked off on the form "Do Not Contact Unless Authorized." Candidates have a legitimate interest in not risking unauthorized contact with their employer.

The next edition of the Faculty Appointments Register will be distributed in late August. The 2000 Faculty Recruitment Conference will be held November 2-4 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. We will notify you of the FAR deadline and distribution dates this spring.
