| Subject: | AALS Comments on Interim Solomon Amendment Regulations |
In Memorandum 00-06, dated February 9, 2000, you were advised of the Department of Defense Interim Regulations abolishing the "individual unit exemption" under the Solomon Amendment. In that memorandum I indicated that the AALS was exploring possible responses to these interim regulations. The AALS has now filed the attached comments. AALS was joined in this effort by the American Council on Education, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Association of American Universities, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. The Association owes a debt of gratitude to Professor David Chavkin, American University, Washington College of Law, who did most of the research for, and writing of, these comments.
