The census provides a vital window into emerging trends in American life, touching on many areas ranging from the changing family and immigration, to the structure of our metropolitan areas and the racial and ethnic composition of the United States. This panel will present a variety of perspectives on these trends, with special emphasis on poverty, inequality, race, and class. A special participant, Ms. Riche, former Director of the United States Bureau of the Census, will provide unique insights on this fascinating and important subject.
