At War with Communications Law

Speakers:
To be announced

This program will explore the way that freedom of speech and the rights of the press are altered during times of war. We will explore historical precedents, such as the jailing of newspaper editors during the Civil War and President Nixon's attempt to prevent the publication of the Pentagon Papers. We will also examine what is happening during the current military situation, with the closing of deportation hearings and other attempts by the government to limit access to information.
