Panel Discussion about Pro Bono Projects
Moderator and Speaker:
Alexa Shabecoff, Harvard Law School

Speakers:

  • Frances Lee Ansley, University of Tennessee
  • Karen L. Tokarz, Washington University
  • Gregory Joseph Vincent, Louisiana State University
Law school faculty increasingly seek to combine their scholarship or teaching with pro bono work that furthers equal justice. Many are not sure how to identify good projects or how to obtain institutional support. The panelists will speak about their own pro bono projects, which span international and domestic arenas as well as litigation, community legal education, and transactional work. They will also discuss how they identified productive pro bono work, how they obtained law school support for their projects, and how their pro bono work has impacted their teaching and writing. There will be ample opportunity for contributions and questions from all participants in the session.

Pro Bono Opportunities with Unions and the Labor Movement
Speaker: Jon P. Hiatt, General Counsel, AFL-CIO, Washington, D.C.

Mr. Hiatt will discuss opportunities for faculty and students to engage in pro bono labor, civil rights, and election law matters by working with unions and the broader labor movement.
