Role of Law Schools and Faculty in CLE
Moderator: Nancy Jean LaMont, The Pennsylvania State University
Speakers: - Lawrence Jay Center, Georgetown University
- Peter F. Lake, Stetson University
- Jan F. Majewski, Stetson University
- Jill J. Ramsfield, Georgetown University
At last year's Section program, the impact of the MacCrate Report over the past ten years was examined. The MacCrate Report challenged law schools to "work with the organized bar to assure that the development of lawyering skills and values continues beyond law school and throughout lawyers' professional lives...." A recent survey on CLE indicated that, while the majority of law schools have a full-time CLE Director, virtually none are faculty members. It also appears to be about evenly split whether CLE operations are expected by law schools to be profit centers or to be breakeven operations. This program will look at the results of the survey, examine the role of law schools in CLE in light of today's competitive CLE environment and shrinking law school resources, and will examine opportunities for faculty to participate in and benefit from CLE.
