Program:

Introduction: What is the “scholarship of teaching and learning” and how does one pursue it?

Remarks: Professor Dennis Jacobs

Intermezzo 1: Team exercise (10 minutes)

Please turn to someone sitting next to you (ideally someone you do not already know). Introduce yourselves to each other briefly. Now that you know a bit about “the scholarship of teaching and learning,” we’d like each of you to think about and share a “puzzle” you have about student learning (something that is meaningful and important to you). Make a note of what you and your partner each said.

Panel: Professors Aiken, Moran, and Parker

Intermezzo 2: Team exercise (10 minutes)

Now that you’ve heard some ideas about others’ questions about teaching and learning, and how they’ve gone about trying to answer them, think a bit more about how you could get evidence that would address the question or puzzle you identified in the first team exercise. Share your thoughts with your partner.

Extending The Conversation: What are some of your ideas about the scholarship of teaching and learning that you’d like to raise with the speakers and colleagues in attendance here? How might the AALS, individual law schools, and faculty members undertake more substantial scholarship of teaching and learning in our field?
