Art and the Internet

Moderator:

Alfred Chueh-Chin Yen, Boston College

Speakers:
Keith Aoki, University of Oregon
Julie E. Cohen, Georgetown University
David Green, Corporate Counsel, Corbis Corporation, Bellevue, Washington
Bonnie Mitchell, Professor, Divison of Computer Art, School of Art, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio

The Internet has changed both the production and exploitation of art. The speedy communication associated with digital networks allows artists to collaborate in ways unimagined before the Internet's widespread use, and the Internet's quick duplication and dissemination of information offers the possibility of both open access to art and the continued commercialization of art. This panel offers two speakers who will address how artists use the Internet to create new works and how the Internet has spawned new commercial opportunities related to art. The panel's two other speakers will address the legal issues that these practices raise.
