A look at the procedural systems of other countries offers multiple benefits. First, with growing globalization, it is increasingly likely that American lawyers will encounter other procedural systems and will need to have at least some familiarity with these systems. Second, there may be lessons to be learned from other countries' procedural systems and reform efforts. Finally, comparative law offers a lens through which we can better understand ourselves. Differences in procedures may arise from fundamental beliefs about government and the distribution of power.
