The private pension landscape, once dominated by defined benefit plans, has changed dramatically over the last fifteen to twenty years. The number of defined benefit plans has steadily declined while the number of defined contribution plans has substantially increased. Moreover, in recent years, many large employers have converted their defined benefit plans into hybrid cash balance plans. The panelists will discuss the reasons for these changes, the myriad issues they raise, and their implications for the future of private pensions.
