This panel focuses on law school developments that have contributed to the "globalization" of legal education. It is hoped that the information shared at this session can be used by other law schools to create programs that best suit their needs as legal education moves towards even greater globalization efforts.
AALS Executive Director Carl Monk will report on the LaPietra Conference: AALS Conference of International Legal Educators held in Florence, Italy, May 2000. Dean Rappaport will report on student and faculty consortia. Four speakers will report on curricular innovations – Professor Upham will discuss NYU's new graduate program on public international lawyering; Professor Friedman will discuss curricular innovations for foreign-trained LL.M. students; and Dean Sexton and Professor Scharf will report on efforts to internationalize the core J.D. curriculum at their respective law schools. Professor Wing will report on the roll of culture, race, gender, and language in the internationalization of legal education. Finally, Professor Del Duca will report on selected developments in global legal education in Europe. Professor Fine will moderate the discussion.
