This program addresses the continuing problem facing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people of color of having the multilayered aspects of their identity recognized by the law and other societal institutions. Scholars will explore the deconstruction of the range of problems involved with this and its destructive nature for the individuals and for the ways in which the law and society understand and define identity for anyone. This will be done both for community of colors in the United States but also for sexual minority communities in Africa. Activists will explore the practical aspects of these issues.
