This panel will offer a variety of perspectives—First Amendment, foreign policy, human rights, international law, critical theory—on the Supreme Court's 1999 decision in Reno v. American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, 119 S. Ct. 936. In that case, the Court held that, under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, the federal courts lacked jurisdiction to review the claims of members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine that the Immigration and Naturalization Service's efforts to deport them denied them of constitutional, including First Amendment, rights.
