| Anti-gay harassment is a pervasive problem in our nation's schools. There are scores of stories of gay students taunted, abused, and attacked by their peers just because they are gay. Such torment can have long-lasting, devastating effects. This issue was first brought to the attention of the nation when Jamie Nabozny brought suit against his school for the harassment he suffered at the hands of his peers. He ultimately settled the case for over $900,000. Most recently, the Supreme Court has addressed the question on school liability for sexual harassment of students under Title IX. This panel will explore the situation faced by harassed gay students and discuss how these and other cases affect the legal landscape facing harassed gay students. |
