The last decade of the 20th century saw a vociferous public debate in the United States, as well as many developed nations, over immigration. In 1996 alone, the United States Congress passed three drastic "reform" measures in response to public concern with immigration. The Sections have brought together a group of scholars with diverse perspectives and experiences to discuss the current role of race in the formulation of immigration law and policy. In recent years, a growing body of scholarship, much of it critical, has begun the task of analyzing how race factors into the development of this body of law. The panelists will offer their thoughts on this important, and controversial, subject in a roundtable discussion.
