As these words are written, one thing is certain: either comprehensive bankruptcy reform will be enacted, or it will not. Regardless of the outcome, the past several years have witnessed an extraordinarily high level of political agitation for changes in federal bankruptcy law. The program will explore the political dynamics of bankruptcy and try to get beyond the simple bank vs. credit card company vs. debtor model that often is offered.
Many section members will be familiar with the work of panelists Professors Block-Lieb and Janger. Dr. Halliday recently co-authored the book Rescuing Business: The Making of Corporate Bankruptcy Law in England and the United States and will offer a sociologist's perspective on the role attorneys and other bankruptcy professionals play in the bankruptcy reform process.
At the business meeting, representatives of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges will make announcements about their organizations' activities that will specially benefit academics studying bankruptcy law.
