This program will explore the legacy of liberal ideology centering property as a desirable or perhaps necessary linkage to human flourshing. The panelists will address the historical context for the creation and evolution of property rights. From various perspectives the presenters will discuss property's promise as a tool or vehicle for attainment of full personhood and citizenship. Topics will include intellectual property and cultural rights, native land rights, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, African women's property rights, and the queering of properties of identity.
